Dan Testing
Candidates are expected to maintain continuous membership as well as maintain and improve proficiency on all specified material learned at earlier levels while continuing to move up through grades and degrees.
1st DEGREE BLACK BELT (1st Keup to 1st Dan) Test Fee $250
To advance from Brown to 1st Dan Black candidate must have been a Brown belt no less than
one year at the time of the test.
(a) candidate must have their immediate instructors approval
(b) must have participated in one tournament
(c) must have participated in at least 3 workouts at a camp/seminar.
(d) Performance at Promotion shall include:
1. basics work out
2. 3 inch break (exceptions to be made for candidates under 100 lb., age, and safety factors.)
3. Demonstration of Chul Gi 1, Palsek (Basai) and Kuk Mu 5
4. 5 basic 3 steps
5. Sparring - one-step, instant, free
6. self defense
2nd DEGREE BLACK BELT (1 Dan to 2 Dan) Test Fee $300
(a) candidate must have been 1st Dan no less than 2.5 years
(b) must have participated in at least 3 workouts at a camp/seminar in intervening time
(c) Performance at Promotion shall include:
1. basics work out
2. breaks- 4 inch upper body,4 inch kick (exceptions to be made for candidates under 100 lb.,
age, and safety factors)
3. demonstration of Palsek,Ship Su & Chul Gi 2 & 1 optional form (optional additional forms - Koryo,Chinto, Kang Sang Koon Sho, Kang Sang Koon Dae, Chul Gi 3)
4. 3 basic 3 steps,3 combinations
5. sparring 2 on 1
6. self defense
3rd DEGREE BLACK BELT (2 Dan to 3 Dan)Test Fee $350
(a) candidate must have been 2nd Dan no less than 3 years
(b) must have been active during 6 months previous to promotion
(c) must have attended one full camp or 3 seminars in intervening time
(d) Performance at Promotion shall include
1. basics work out
2. breaks- 5 inch upper body,5 inch kick,5 inch choice & 3 spot combination (exceptions to
be made for candidates under 100 lb., age, and safety factors)
3. demonstration of Palsek,Ship Su , Chul Gi 2 & Yun Bee (optional additional forms -
Koryo,Chinto, Kang Sang Koon Sho, Kang Sang Koon Dae, Chul Gi 3)
4. 5 (3 step or 1 step) combinations
5. 3 on 1 sparring

4th DEGREE BLACK BELT (3 Dan to 4 Dan)Test Fee $350
(a) candidate must have been 3rd Dan no less than 4 years
(b) must have been active during 1 year previous to promotion

5th DEGREE BLACK BELT (4 Dan to 5 Dan)Test Fee $350
a. Candidate must have been a 4th Dan no less than 5 years and have generated a student that tested and passed a black belt promotion.
b. Performance at Promotion shall include
1. basics work out
2. any demonstration break
3. demonstration of any 2 Black belt forms
4. 5 (3 step or 1 step) combinations
5. 4 on 1 sparring
6. self defense
III. EXAM STANDARDS
This is not a test, but a performance. Black Belt standard is the successful demonstration of required
forms and the execution of required breaks.
It is incumbent upon the instructor that the candidates they approve for testing are ready for the requirements of the test.
The level of ability is for each individual to display.
